Hi

Would be nice to know if it was the automap software, as long as i used their latest official driver 4.4 had now end then exit crashes or the cubase.exe prozess didn't closed by itself. Since new beta driver no more problem and also the vst3 got automaped and cubase doesn't hang up by start.
Version 4.4b1 to get here ...

This hanging thing is nuts, they still haven't fixed it. I'm on Cubase 6.07

Some people suggested renaming the "videoengine.dll" in app data (i think), give it a try. (video might be disabled though, doesn't affect me )

good luck!

I've been searching for users experiences with JBridged 3d party 32bit VSTiin Cubase Artist 6.5 and Automap.

I'd like to add a Remote SL49 mkII, but I would need automap as I'm not midi savvy. I know the basics of MIMI that's all, and there's already a lot to learn in Artist like it is.

I don't have many 32bitters: Image Line's Ogun, Sytrus and Vocodex, and G-Force's M-Tron Pro and Oddity . Without JBridge they were a nuisance. With it, including some extra checkboxes, they work. But Joao advises against using and Automap and his JBridge together.

So: what's the verdict now with that beta version of Automap?
I did read on the page that Initialising some VST plug-ins can cause Cubase to crash on exit is still a known issue...

Hi

Since i updated to the betadriver of automap never had an crash on exit.
If you don't want to use Jbridge (i personally haven't tested it jet), you can use cubae 32 bit for your "old plugins" and after you just bounced the tracks with the old plugins to a wavfile, then open the project file in cubase 64bit and work on.

I tend to test thoroughly.
And all tests arrrrre... positive!

No problems with 64bit Steinbergs
No problems with 64-bit 3d party (Kontakt, Absynth, Alchemy, Iris)
No problems with JBridge'd 32-bit vsti (IL Ogun and Sytrus, G-Force MTron-Pro and Oddity)

My only complaint (!?!) is that Automap's default settings for instruments are, to say it galantly, poor and illogical. Sometimes volume is this slider, then it's another one, and most knobs and slders are not assigned. Yet it messages that it has full control! Ha, ha and again ha!
Which means: manual to read and my will to impose. (timid cough)

So thanks againBassbase! Your suggestions are picco bello!

Lovely to hear ;)

Once you figured out how to make those templates its your turn to teach me ;) until now never used my knobs on my remote sl ;) compact
But make template for certain plugins could be an improvement for sure ;)

So make more music ;) and have fun

I will, but it boils down to this, being faster when done than when described:

- Launch the Automap server, choose Mixer/Plugins Mappings, then at the bottom right Device Calibration.
- The Edit Mapping Window will open. If you don't see the Title Bar (Save, Open...to Page Down Icon,...) click the little triangle top-right. Also click to open the Edit Assignment triangle down left. You'll see two tabs added: Parameter and Range
-Launch Cubase and add an Instrument track, choose your instrument.
- You'll see in the main part of the Edit Mapping Window a replica of your Novation hardware midi controller's interface ( MkII, Zero, Nocturn...)and Automap's default assignment for them.
- Draw the EMW to the right of your screen so it's out of view, now open your instrument's interface, drag it more to the left and drag the EMW back in so they are side by side (if they overlap one will disappear!)
--------------------------------------------------------
- Several of the buttons, knobs,... may not be assigned like you want or prefer to work. For example, I prefer the Volume to be the rightmost slider.
- Click on the rightmost slider of the hardware replica on your screen. It'll turn reddish.
- Now on the droppen down parameter tab, click at the right and type vol into the box. The volume parameter at the left will be in focus.
- Click on it. The Volume is assigned now to the rightmost slider.
---------------------------------------------------------
I personally use a Zero which comes with a pan-slider. I want to assign that to panning. So I click it, type in Pan and click the Pan parameter. But in my headphones Left was Right and Right was Left. To change this, click the Range Tab and there choose Invert. Done.
---------------------------------------------------------
When you have chanbged everything to your heart's desire, go to the title bar and choose Save. You will be asked where to save it. Get a Automap-Mappings folder and save it in there. Next time you use Automap with that particular instrument, it'll open with its default settings. But on the Edit window you can choose Open in the Title Bar and open your saved map.
---------------------------------------------------------
When you're really happy with it after some time spent using it in practical situations, you may want to click the Set As Default button in the Title Bar so it opens when you launch that particular instrument.

Much more can be done.
- It's possible to add several keyboards, or, say, three Zero's (one for the money, one for the show, three to get ready...) but only one can be active at a time.
- Buttons can be set to different uses like on/off, only act when pressed down, toggle between two options and step through, say, a list of wave options for an oscillator.
- Pots and sliders can be set to go from and to defineable values. Entering the same value (in the Range Tab of course) but starting from negative (like -50 and 50) will have the pot or slider be at zero in the centre.
Also, to protect the values, they only become active when, by dragging or rotating, you pass the set value so everything changes smoothly. This can give the impression of a delay, but it isn't.
- Encoders work like Knobs but they are endless, so they have no fixed value. The can be used normally, inverted and also to react to the speed with which they are rotated.
- Virtual Midi is available but not in all Automappable Novation products. This takes over the hardware midi assignment and can be used to set Quick Controls etc
- Automap can also remember shortcuts and assign them to buttons so you don't have to jump to your computer keyboard anymore.

Only:
- don't forget to save your map
- it's not possible to have more than one "thing" controlled at a time. So it's either the mixer or an instrument or an effect, but never "and".

One last detail I forgot: Automap takes over the synth's interface. In case you still want to tweak some setting you hold Alt whie clicking which makes a slider pop up. Handy.

I learn a lot when I have to write it down. All gaps become o! so clear...

I'll add Kontakt later on. That's a bit more complex as first the instrument's settings have to be set in Kontakt before these can be assigned via Automap.
