Five octaves of silky wood

This Marimba was recorded by Cinematique Instruments together with one of Australia’s finest percussionists, Michael Askill. Using his unique playing technique, the instrument for HALion inspires with an intimate, rich and very warm sound.

The concept of Marimba

The bars of the Marimba are played with different mallets. The hard articulation was made by hitting with a plastic mallet which achieves a dry and thin sound with lots of percussive attack. The second articulation features a typical felt mallet giving you a sound which balances the percussive attack and a warm richness. The last variation was achieved by playing the Marimba with a giant soft mallet resulting in a warm and indirect sound.
