Yes I got it to work
Funny thing is that I used a usb-c cable with a usb-c connector on one end and a type-a on the other - with an Apple usb-a to usb-c adapter on the end.
It works only if you connect the Apple adapter end to the iPad Pro, and the usb-c end to the ur44c. It does not work if you reverse the cable
