Out of the music scene for some time, essentially a complete beginner when it comes to recording. Read: Explain it like I’m five.
Successfully recorded an audio track using my keyboard with Cubase 8. Audio interface is an 8 input by M-audio, if that helps.
Was able to hear the drum loop [used instead of click track] while it was recording, but can’t hear it during playback…no sound at all.
I can see the track selected for playing, and the volume graphics still move up and down as expected, but nothing through the headphones.
Correction: Just found out I can hear what I recorded if I plug my headphones into the corresponding output on the back of the M-track 8. I mean, duh. Again, very new at this.
Now the question is: How can I hear the track[s] I previously recorded while hearing what I’m playing currently? Right now, I can only do one or the other. I’m such a winner.
I fooled around with Cubase a couple years ago and was able to hear the rough drafts in playback while recording new audio tracks. Not sure what I’m doing wrong now. Any advice appreciated.
You need to connect the interface output ports to the Cubase bus in VST connections, and the tracks’ outputs to that bus. Explained as if you were five in the manual.
