Yes, as someone who has used Steinberg’s DAW products for years, I was astonished when I discovered this flaw. Comping and recording are the bread-and-butter of most DAW users. Seems like something that would have shown up during user-testing (if not earlier, during product design).
Again, here’s the problem in a nutshell:
After a track is comp’ed, recording a new take ERASES that comp.
Sadly, there is no workaround for this issue that I know of - aside from recording all your new takes (post-comp) onto new/different track(s). Which, of course, largely defeats the purpose of Steinberg’s otherwise impressive lanes/comping feature set.
